Kurt Rockstroh, AIA, ACHA | President

Kurt Rockstroh serves as President and CEO of Steffian Bradley Architects (SBA) and Sterling Planning Alliance, two complementary firms based in Boston, Massachusetts. SBA is a multi-discipline design organization with additional offices in London, England and Guangzhou, China. SBA’s counterpart for healthcare strategic planning, Sterling Planning Alliance also practices in the United Kingdom.

Kurt joined SBA in 1977, became a partner in 1982, and President and CEO in 1996. When SBA added the Sterling group in 1999, Kurt assumed leadership for this organization as well, while overseeing expansion of both firms into the international design arena.

During his 34 years of practice Kurt has specialized in healthcare facilities design and planning. He has contributed to more than 400 projects throughout the United States, England, and the Middle East. He has been involved in master planning and strategic planning initiatives for more than 75 healthcare organizations.

Kurt has been a member of the Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) since 1978 serving on their board for three terms. A founding member of the American College of Healthcare Architects, Kurt also co-founded the Boston Society of Architects’ (BSA) Healthcare Facilities Committee and served as the BSA’s liaison to the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board. He has been on the Board of Trustees for the Boston Home, a long-term care facility for people with multiple sclerosis, since 1991.

Active in the realm of architecture education and development, Kurt co-founded the Healthcare Design Studio at the Boston Architectural Center, has taught a healthcare planning course for the Harvard Graduate School of Design’s Executive Education Program, and presented at over 250 healthcare design conferences and events worldwide. Kurt has been involved with the last five editions of ‘The Guidelines for Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities,’ a member of the Steering Committee since 1992, and vice-chair for its upcoming 2010 edition.
